Love and Dodd Festivals

LOVE MOUNTAIN FESTIVAL
BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY AT LOVE, VA

The first Annual LOVE MOUNTIAN FESTIVAL at Royal Oaks will be held on June 12 & 13, 2010. Royal Oaks is an upscale Wedding and Cabin Rental Resort located on 17 acres of  mountain top paradise in the hamlet of LOVE, VA. This event will coincide with the 75th Anniversary of the Blue Ridge Parkway, and is included in the Nelson County Loop Events planned for June 12, 2010.  The festival will include Mountain Music, Educational Programs, Demonstrations, and Arts & Crafts.

Music - The evolution of Mountain Music in the Blue Ridge will be demonstrated with various types of Mountain Music Bands. Old Time Mountain, Blue Grass, and Gospel bands will perform both days of the festival.

Educational Programs
- Between band sets; educational programs will be presented concentrating on various aspects of Life on the Blue Ridge. Topics included are Wildlife, Art, History, Music, Recreation, and Wineries. Included in this educational program is the Virginia 'Wildlife Center which will discuss Wildlife on the Blue Ridge, and will have some live animals on display. Author Lynn Coffey will discuss history and culture on the Blue Ridge, and will be selling signed copies of her newly published book  Backroads .

Demonstrations - Boiling Apple Butter, Arts, and Crafts

Souvenirs - Walking Sticks, Coon Skin Hats, Wildlife Art, Indian jewelry, and mugs and glasses.

Food - The Parkway Deli will provide hot and cold Sandwiches, Hot Grilled Panini's, Hot Dogs, Subs, Chips, and Drinks. Home baked goods from local churches will also be available.

When - June 12 & 13, 2010, Hours are from 0100 PM to 0700 PM.

Where is LOVE, Virginia ? To access Royal Oaks from Interstate 64 between Waynesboro and Charlottesville, Va. Take exit 99 and go South on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just south of Milepost 16, turn right on LOVE Road (Rt. 814). Go only 500 feet and turn left onto  Royal Oaks Lane.

DODD CABIN FESTIVAL AT BEECH GROVE

June 12th starting at 1pm we will have several bands and cloggers going until 7pm.  There will be an assortment of crafters and vendors on sight, as well as a demonstration by the local civil war enactors.  Food will be provided by the Rockfish Ruritans and the Cub Scouts-Pack 32.  Items to bring include lawn chairs or blankets.  Reminder – no alcohol or pets. No charge.

Please understand there are 50 miles of public roads that make up the NELSON SCENIC LOOP but much of the adjoining land is private or George Washington National Forest Wilderness Land. We ask that you be RESPECTFUL of these PROPERTIES and the PRIVACY of the Nelson residents who live and work here. The way of life here is a special one. There are no farms or residences open generally to the public. In this regard, please be on the lookout for cars entering the roads, children playing and respect the farm equipment traffic you encounter. This is a rural area and the roads are not meant for high speeds.

Enjoy yourself and learn about the history, culture and natural resources around the LOOP from the website www.nelsonscenicloop.com. Enjoy your visit to Nelson County, the public sites and trails and this wonderful environment.
