This road was built over an old Indian Trail that led from Steeles’s Tavern following the Tye River and winds up the mountain until it reaches the small hamlet of Montebello.
After World War II the crooked road was straightened and paved. Bridges were constructed over the river and today furnishes an excellent road to the valley of Virginia.
